Usually people think that Internet and the web is, alike. Actually, the Internet is merely an international network of computers and the web runs on top of the Internet, and makes it useful for everyone. How do the webs work?

How was the web invented?

The web was invented 20 years after the start of the Internet. Tim Berners-Lee invented web in 1989. At that point, people had been trying to work out effective ways of sending information around on the Internet. Email was invented in 1971, but there was no system at that time, that could really exploit the net’s potential.

Everything changed with the invention of the web. Berners-Lee’s big inspiration was to apply the idea of links to the Internet: the web was possibly a mass of pages that one could move amid by clicking on links. Format for these pages (HTML), and writing of the first web browser to view them with, as well as the first web server for sending them to other people’s web browsers was all invented by him.

Links were revolutionary at that time though they do not seem much now. Internet access would be useless without the web. As one cannot imagine what the web would be like if one had to keep typing long addresses every time he/she wanted to move from one page to the next, or using long numbered menu systems that work differently from one site to the next.

Browsers and Servers

One is using the web when one is using any web browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox or any other web browser. As these web browsers, works like-

1.	When one opens his/her web browser, it goes to his/her home page. He/she can click links to other websites, or to other parts of the same website. One can type in a search and click links in the search results if his/her home page is a search engine. One can type in the address of a site if he/she knows the site address and then to keep going, click on more links from there.

2.	A browser looks at two things each time one clicks a link: the name of the web server it links to, and the name of the page it links to on that server. Now let me explain this with an example by using HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) the address ‘http://www.sample.com/newpage.html’ tells the web browser to get the page called newpage.html from the server at www.sample.com. Connected to the Internet, this server is a real computer that has the page one wants to read stored on its hard disk.

3.	Using DNS (Domain Name System), web browser looks up & finds out where this server is, which turns the text address into a number. This IP (Internet Protocol) address looks like a phone number consisting of four numbers between 0 and 255. Once one knows its IP address, it can easily find the quickest route from his/her ISP (Internet Service Provider) to the server, and start communication. The Internet is set up to make it easy to find a server anywhere in the world. This entire procedure, from DNS lookup to connection, will repeatedly take much less than a second.

4.	Web server takes action by sending back the HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) code for that page, once the web browser sends an HTTP request to that web server. Web browser turns this code into a page that one can analyze. One can click more links, from there to start the process over again.

One can now use the web to download anything, from pictures to programs, but it all works in the same way. Of course, all this has become quite easy: modern browsers and servers send around much more than HTML code.

One will get an error if something goes wrong somewhere in this process like ‘the page cannot be displayed’, this error means that the server’s name was wrong, or that it doesn’t have the page he/she wants. One might often see errors like “the server is currently too busy with other people’s requests to respond,” or that “the page you wanted has moved.” The best thing to do in each case is to follow the instructions on the error page, which usually means checking the address and trying again.

Today the world has more businesses then it had in the past. Even business experts say that in the contemporary market it becomes quite easy to start a new business venture. Hope they might be sticking to businesses which happen in the virtual world.

However, it is not at all easy to initiate a business in the virtual world. Stepping into the arena of business market means an entrepreneur should be well equipped with the techniques and resources which can boost its expansion and growth. To beat the challengers means he or she should be enhanced with well-defined business project and weapons which are far better than the participants in the virtual world.

Nowadays for online entrepreneurs it has become indispensable to stick to professional joomla web design. If any start-up initiates his or her business entrepreneurship with a website delivered by a professional web design company then he or she will certainly get the expected results.

A website design by a professional web design company lets a visitor to be the king. A web designer in such a company ensures that online applications installed on the new site should be user-friendly and it would deliver information related to products and services in a convenient way.

If we have a look at the websites which are available in the virtual world then we will find that most of them make use of animations, frames, doorway pages and flash presentations. However, when it comes to a professional website then the usage of animations, flash, doorway pages and frames is not at all recommended. New entrepreneurs should remember that excessive usage of such applications will hamper their site visibility and online reputation.

Most of the multinational companies worldwide always opt for professional web design because it gives them the perfect site which represents their website. For clients the website of a corporate house is everything. They know it very well if they want to know anything about the company then they should visit its website. If such clients are not convinced by the website or if the website does not reflect the professional edge then the corporate will lose its valuable clients.

Web Site Development, so you want to get in to this field?

Web site development is the art of creating and developing the world wide web. Using tools, graphics and programming toward the development of the world wide web. This article gives you some great resources to get your feet wet in the development field.

First, to learn a little about my skills in web development. I am 24 years old and I started my first online business at 12. I started hand coding HTML for fun and learned to love web sites. I have built web sites for small companies to large corporations.

There are so many resources available on the net so that you can get involved designing web sites. However without any sort of knowledge in the field, it can be very confusing. Common questions that probably run through your head are “what development tools should be used”, “how do I get web sites on the internet”, and “how to I create applications”. I am going to go briefly over these different questions and provide you with great resources to learn more.

Next step in the development process is that you need to obtain a domain name (or web site address) – this can be accomplished by searching google for domain names. A domain name example would be “yourwebsite.com”. You will also need to find a web site host to manage your files. A web site host simply stores your web site on a computer in a datacenter that can be accessed by the entire world wide web.

Now let me give you steps to learn how to build a basic site. First off, I want to give you an understanding of the best web development tools to use (in my opinion of course).

When building a web site, you can utilize many different tools. Some of the easiest tools to use are programs such as Frontpage. However if you are interested in working long term in this field, I would grab a book on Dreamweaver – dreamweaver is a program that must be purchased. For great tutorials on using this program go to killersites.com/dreamweaver/ for video tutorials. This program is great, simple (considering its power) and offers amazing scaleability.

You will also need a program called a FTP client. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. This is a program that allows you to connect to your web site (at your hosting company) and add your files. I recommend Filezilla. Great filezilla tutorials are available at easywebtutorials.com/html-tutorial/lessons/publish.html

Another program you may find useful for image design & development is Adobe Photoshop. This allows you to create quality and complex images, and comes with great tutorials.

Now you must understand web site structure when building web pages. All HOME PAGE files you find on the internet are called index files. A home page file is the first page everyone sees when they land on your web site. Your index file is a page named index.html, (could be index.php or a few others) – The most common is index.html. The sites landing page will always have an index file. For example when you go to google.com – you are actually accessing google.com/index.html. You can name any other pages whatever you want, but you always need an index file in the main folder of your web site.

After you have a main index page, you will need to create additional pages that you will eventually link together from your home page. Good examples would be contactus.html, about.html, jokes.html, and etc. You can create new pages in your web site editor (dreamweaver) and then you can go to your index.html file and create a link to the new pages you created using the link icon.

This was a quick overview of the web development process. To find great resources on the internet google “web development tutorials”, “dreamweaver tutorials”, “web design tutorials”, and so on. If you are interested in becoming a web site programmer learning languages like PHP, ASP, JAVASCRIPT and so on. I would recommend checking out classes at your local community college or searching google for “beginners guides to programming”.

A quick recap – the web development process works like this. You will build your home page in dreamweaver and save the page you create as index.html – Then you create sub-pages such as contactus.html, aboutus.html, services.html, and then you link to them from the home page. Then you will proceed to upload your index.html file and all other files using filezilla to your hosting accounts root directory. This directory is often times named http, httpdocs, www, home.

Hopefully this helped!
